Ladies and Gentlemen, dear friends of our partnership Rhineland-Palatinate / Rwanda,

For some days now we have been receiving terrible news from our partner country Rwanda. Continuous storms have led to catastrophic conditions: Flooding, collapsed houses, landslides, destroyed roads and bridges and worse. So far, 130 people have died and many are still missing. In the west and north of Rwanda, the districts most affected are those in which many Rhineland-Palatinate citizens are involved in the partnership.

And unfortunately, many of those affected were already among the poorest of the poor before the floods. The floods mostly affected the small farmers and the little they had was now destroyed by this disaster. Clothing, food, seeds and supplies have been lost or rendered useless by the rain and mud. Many farmers have also lost all their animals. Numerous cows, goats or chickens were literally swept away by the floods.

Against this background, we as the Rhineland-Palatinate state government and the Rhineland-Palatinate / Rwanda Partnership Association ask for solidarity with the flood victims and for help for the people in the partner country Rwanda. In these difficult times, we stand by the side of our friends in Rwanda.

In order to be able to help our partners in Rwanda at short notice and without complications, we ask for your donation for the victims of the floods in Rwanda.

Donations can be made to the account of the partnership association:

Sparkasse Rhein-Nahe
Verein Partnerschaft Rheinland-Pfalz / Ruanda e.V.
IBAN: DE92 5605 0180 0017 1131 43

Please indicate “„Flutopfer Ruanda“” as the purpose of the donation.

The use of the donations will be supervised by our coordination office in Kigali in close contact with the affected partners on site.
We would like to thank you for your support.

Malu Dreyer                       Norbert Neuser
Prime Minister                  President of the Partnership Association
